When I look at my son, I see a gift. A gift born from someone overcoming so many challenges and obstacles in his short life. He is always laughing and joking. He is a wonder and a joy. He has taught me so much about love, faith, and patience. He is a walking, talking miracle that I almost lost on more than one occasion.
My son was diagnosed with autism when he was between two and three years old. He had trouble communicating, socializing, and learning. He was easily overwhelmed by sensory stimuli, such as loud noises, big crowds, and unfamiliar people. He often had tantrums and meltdowns. He had trouble connecting with his peers.
But autism was not the only challenge he faced. When he was four years old, he had his first seizure. It was the most terrifying moment of my life. Luckily my husband recognized it as he had seen something similar with another family on Facebook.
We rushed him to the hospital, where he managed to pull through. It wasn’t until his second seizure that we got the official diagnosis of epilepsy. He was put on an older medication that actually wound up causing more problems than it did good, Carbamezapine. The drug would randomly metasticize itself and cause drops in coverage which caused him to have severe breakthrough seizures. His father and I were wrought with worry as these seizures are some of the scariest things you would ever want to see.
I will never forget one of his last seizures. As long as I live the image of two nurses who looked at me wide eyed, gripped in terror after my son had seized for over an hour in the ER is etched in my memory. The doctor was frazzled and tired from trying to resuscitate him and all of the staff were seemingly losing steam in the fight for my son’s life. I prayed, in tongues, out loud, I didn’t care who heard me. I begged God for my son to come back to me. I could not face this world without him. I’ll never forget looking at his Dad’s face during this moment and seeing a man who I admired for his fortitude and strength buckled, rendered mute and frozen as we watched in terror.
My “gift” managed to pull through as God heard my deepest fear. God answered us in that moment and we were blessed with more time with our little miracle.
I had a friend and coworker who said something profound to me that rattled my cage a little. Combined with something my mother had told me years ago caused me to take action and seek a second opinion at Duke Hospital. We did and our son was switched to a new medication that, after finding the right dose and after God’s intervention he has managed to keep his seizures at bay.
He is now 15 years old, and he is doing amazing things. He is attending high school, where he is learning math, science, history, and drama. He is making YouTube videos about his favorite topics, video games mostly. He is designing his own Roblox games, where he creates worlds and characters with his imagination. He is making videos with his phone and is learning Blender with his mom.
He is also making NFTs with his art. NFTs are digital tokens that represent ownership of unique digital assets on the blockchain. NFTs can be anything from art to music to games to memes. NFTs are a new way of expressing creativity and sharing value on the internet.
My son loves NFTs because they allow him to showcase his art to the world and connect with other artists and collectors who appreciate his work. He also loves NFTs because they help him fund his passion projects and support his future goals.
This NFT collection is the beginning of a broader collection that he plans to sell to fund his love of YouTube, Roblox, and all things creative. This collection features some of his best artworks that reflect his personality, interests, and dreams.
By buying this collection, you are not only getting a piece of digital art that you can enjoy and display on your devices or platforms. You are also getting a piece of my son’s story that you can cherish and celebrate.
You are also supporting my son’s journey of overcoming autism and epilepsy, and pursuing his creative potential.
You are also helping him build his own NFT marketplace that will compete with OpenSea, Rarible, and LooksRare. He has a vision of creating a platform that will empower other artists and creators who face challenges and disabilities, and give them a chance to share their talents and passions with the world.
He is working hard to make this vision a reality, and he needs your help to make it happen.
He is alive and well by the grace of God, but he still suffers cognitively. He still has seizures, though less often and less severe. He still has difficulties with communication, socialization, and learning. He still faces many challenges and obstacles in his life.
But he also has hope and faith. He also has love and joy. He also has talent and passion.
He also has you.
Thank you for being part of his miracle.
